Impasse and Next Steps

Bargaining Update

We met with the City yesterday for a long-awaited mediation session. There were productive conversations. We signed tentative agreements on some articles. Then the City presented its financial proposal.

No COLA, no targeted increases, and no to all our premiums. The only thing they offered was a flat 3% pay increase per year, which will likely be a pay cut after inflation. It was not a serious offer. With Strike Authorization in hand, we declared impasse.

Impasse is our official declaration that we can’t reach a deal with the City under current conditions. It is also our next step toward a strike. Now both the Union and the City have one week to submit our Last, Best, and Final offers to each other and the State. After that week, we will enter a 30-day cooling-off period, after which we can legally strike.

You can see the City’s most recent offers and all tentative agreements on our bargaining page HERE.

Labor Actions

Our info pickets last week had a lot of participation and great conversation, but WE NEED MORE. Please show up for every event you can moving forward. The City and its bargaining team will interpret inaction as acceptance of their deal. If you haven’t been involved, now is the time! If you have been involved, get in your coworkers’ ears. We need everyone involved, friends and family included, to get the contract we deserve.

One easy way to get involved is to attend our next Membership Meeting: Wednesday, November 17 at 5:30 p.m. at 17230 NE Sacramento Street. Be there in person!

Be on the look out for more events.
