Recreation Bargaining Update November 4th,
/Hi members,
On Thursday, October 29th, the Recreation bargaining team met with the city. The City presented their counters on schedule B and C. We feel that what they proposed in schedule B is pretty close to what we’ve been asking for (mainly more parity with Schedule A). If you’ve worked in a Schedule B role, the bargaining team would like to hear from you about your experience and the contract.
Schedule C
Here is a grid highlighting proposed changes to the Schedule C contract-
The bargaining team would like to hear from schedule C employees to help us prioritize which issues are most important to you -
Paid 30 minute lunch when you remain onsite
Emergency closure pay
1.5x premium pay for all hours worked on a holiday
Increase sick leave roll over mac to 53 hours and switch it to PTO (Paid Time Off)
Discontinue the practice of lower wage when attending training
Please reach out to your CAT, anyone on the bargaining team or email Leina’ala Slaughter at Leinaala@liuna483.org
Schedule A
The Recreation bargaining team provided examples of common work weeks and schedules and how they change, which allowed us to have robust conversation about how article 7 would impact those schedules.
We still feel that the City’s proposed article 7 language is degrading and disrespectful of the work we do and does not align with our bargaining priorities, which are:
Work life balance
Fair compensation for unexpected changes and long shifts
Fair compensation for irregular schedules (ie; trainings, mandatory staff meetings on the weekends and/or evenings and city-wide trainings on regularly scheduled days off, like "We Are Rec”)
The City also shared that this proposed language is cost neutral (would not save or cost the city money), so we are unsure why the City is pushing this language.
The City had to cancel the bargaining session on 11/5 due to a conflict, so our next scheduled meeting is November 12th, 2026, which is also our first meeting with the mediator. Mediation will be closed to observers, but we will send an update on how it goes.
In the meantime, please continue to reach out to elected officials and share your thoughts on bargaining priorities and what is most important to you.
In solidarity,
Recreation Bargaining Team
